My Cork Board Makeover

When I first got this cork board, I had no intentions of changing a thing about it. I got it because I thought it was pretty and I was trying to de-clutter some things around the house (I have an earlier post about it). I went on a quest around town looking for some cute thumb tacks to use with it. I tried looking at four different places before I settled for some jelly purply ones. I started using them to tack up my things on the board and I was just not happy with them. James said I might need to look online for some that I would be happy with, so that's just what I did.

I looked and looked online and came across some cute homemade ones. I wish I would have kept the website to post on here because they were really cute (even cuter than what I came up with in the end). I saw some made with buttons, some made with fabric, and some made into flowers out of paper. One of the sites also showed a cork board recovered in linen and put in a frame. I thought, "Yeah, I'd like to get rid of the icky brown color of the cork board too." If you haven't guessed by now, I also decided to make my own thumb tacks as well.

I went to Hobby Lobby (I seem to be there weekly) and got some pearl shimmery fabric, that would be a little forgiving with tack holes pushed in it, some E600 glue, thumb tacks, and some buttons that caught my fancy.

I covered the cork board with the fabric and I couldn't wait to start on the thumb tacks to complete it.

The square black and silver ones are the buttons that caught my fancy at the store. I glued them to the tacks. The rest of them are made out of broken jewelry of mine that I also just glued right to the tacks.

That was my cork board makeover! I'm happy with it, I think it looks like my style.
